Breadbox Farm Rabbit Rescue
We believe that as breeders, it is our responsibility to use our vast rabbit knowledge to also help the rabbits in need in our community. We know that every living creature deserves compassion and gentle care. It is our mission to find these rabbits their place in the world, spread awareness about proper rabbit care, and to help others make good decisions for the rabbits in their lives.
The following rabbits are looking for a loving family. They have either been dropped off directly to us, rescued by one of our local shelters, or have been raised at a rabbitry but have special needs. They will need attentive care and patience as they grow to trust you and learn to love again.
Each rabbit is carefully monitored for health concerns and aggressive behaviors before being offered for adoption, but we cannot guarantee the temperaments of these rabbits like we can our own. We believe that there is a family out there for every rabbit, regardless of their hard past, different ability levels, or trust issues.
When you are ready to adopt a pet, please fill out an Adoption Application Form and Robin or Lisa will contact you if approved to set up an appointment time. To reserve a rabbit you will be required to pay in full.
Mufasa and Zazu | Fawn and Self Black Bonded Neutered Males | Lionheads
$700
-
Sex: Males (Both Neutered)
Born: 1 year (Mufasa), 10-11 months (Zazu)
Breed: Lionheads
Variety: Fawn (Mufasa) and Self Black (Zazu)
-
Mufasa and Zazu are the sweetest boys ever!! They came to us from a home that unfortunately had severe allergies. They tried to make it work, but realized it wasn’t going to. The rabbits have no health issues except Mufasa has a little damage to his front teeth from chewing on his bamboo stick. These boys were definitely spoiled and treated like the mom’s children. She gave them nibble rings and lots of other chew treats that they can go home with.
Zazu the self black is more dominant and outgoing. Mufasa the fawn is more timid and takes more time for him to warm up to you. These two cuties were free roam in their previous home and are completely litter trained!! Their owners said they never had to clean up any urine. Wow that’s what we are all looking for!! When it is time to settle down and go to bed they were put into their hutch to sleep, so you don’t have to worry about your cords getting chewed up at night.
They would do well in a variety of home situations. They are used to being around kids as well. They have never been around other animals, so we are not sure how they would react to a cat or dog.
-
1/19/2026 Mufasa = miniature lion. Zazu is the more puffy one and a bit larger. Both absolutely darling. Zazu nipped a bit while being held, but drop off day is always stressful. -Robin

$600
-
Sex: Males (Both Neutered)
Born: 11/2/2020 & Born in 2020
Breed: Netherland Dwarf & Jersey Wooly
Variety: Fox and Chestnut
Health Concerns: Possible cronic stuffy nose for The Fuzz.
Previous vet: Animal Kingdom in Cary
-
This is the sweetest little pair of boy bunnies we have seen. Their bond is really strong so they need to stay together. They are extremely comfortable with human affection, therefore it is very easy to hold, handle, and carry them around. They have low energy level and should definitely be homed indoors.
Their previous owners told us that they love fruit as treats. If you hold The Fuzz like a baby, he will fall asleep in your arms. At this time, they have only been with us for a few days, The Fuzz has a little stuffy nose.
Mish and The Fuzz would do well in a variety of home situations as they are so easy going. We encourage some herbal support and once eyarly vet visits especially for The Fuzz as he gets stuffy when under stress.
-
1/20/2026 The Fuzz seems to have settled in a bit and his stuffy nose has resolved. I suspect that this issue may be brought on by stress. We are feeding him immune blend daily as well. -Robin
Avery | Mixed Breed Female
$200
-
Sex: Female (Not Spayed)
Born: 5/27/2024
Breed: Mixed Breed
Variety: Self Black
-
Avery is spicy meatball but melts into your lap while being petted. She has a bit of “cage aggression” and reacts very strongly to someone coming into her “cave” or near her food. This can be easily worked with for a confident rabbit person and we can give you all the tips if you are interested in this beautiful silky black diva.
She is foodie who loves all varieties of lettuces, cucumbers, and carrots. Big bunnies are always the most fun to feed because they can really eat!
Avery needs someone who will be patient with her and understanding of her spicy tendencies. She also would love to have plenty of space to run around in. If you free range her in your home, I promise she won’t trip you because she’s hard to miss with her sleek black coat. She is also comfortable outside and would make a lovely garden pet in a safely enclosed space such as a shed, chicken run, or large dog pen with a roof.
We recently posted a video of her melting on Mikhala’s lap on our instagram. Check it out!

1/21/2026 We brought her inside last night as it was so cold and I brought her back out to her hutch this morning. I think the practice of moving her back and forth by a confident handler will help her get used to being picked up. She’s a wonderful rabbit, just a bit misunderstood. -Robin
Tasha | Mini Rex Female | Spayed
$400
-
Sex: Female, Spayed
Born: About 2 years old
Breed: Mini Rex
Variety:
-
Tasha is a mini rex and has a luxurious velvet coat that is heaven to stroke. She is looking for a human who wants nothing more than to pet her and she would like you to quit your job so that you can do this continuously. She only has one rule, that you pet her while she is on the ground or a stable surface. She is not the biggest fan of being picked up and tends to nip you to remind you of her rule.
She has been a wonderful “therapy” rabbit while at events. We simply let her stay in a basket instead of sitting on laps. She loves humans and is looking for someone to bond closely with.
Her favorite food is carrot strips and she is a connoisseur of hay varieties.
-
Tasha was spayed by her previous family but do not have paperwork for that surgery.
She lets me kiss her on the head while she is eating and her ears are cold. -January 15
Tasha absolutely loves her stacking cups and plays with them all the time. -January 24 Kate
Annie | Mixed Female
$200
-
Sex: Female (Not Spayed)
Born: 3-4 years
Breed: Mixed
Variety: Chestnut
-
Annie took a little vacation from the website because she was busy being a wonderful mom to her six beautiful babies below. Four of them are sold and she has two more that are up for adoption. She has had 3 great litters for us here at breadbox farm. Annie is a wonderful mother and has such a great demeanor.
She loves to wander around the gardens and have enough space to move around and be care free. Annie gets along well with other rabbits and is even willing to take a rest and snuggle on your lap if you have time to give her some love and pet her for a bit.
She loves to be fed a variety of greens. She would do well in a home that has enough space for her to run around or bond her to another rabbit. Before she had her litter, she and her daughter Aria were bonded and loved hanging out in the breadbox gardens.
-
1/21/2026 Annie is such a darling. She was especially excited to eat today. I think she is burning more calories in this cold front. I gave her extra carrots and oats this morning. -Robin
Peach | Self Black Female | Mixed Breed | Annie x Winter
$200
-
Sex: Female (Not Spayed)
Born: 04/03/2025
Breed: Mixed
Variety: Self Black
-
Peach is shy and sensitive, but loves humans and can easily be won over with a handful of oats. She has a medium to high energy level and needs a lot of space to roam around. Currently she is living in a hutch in our gardens. She can be easily handled by an experienced rabbit person, but can be a little skiddish with someone who is new to rabbits.
She was born as a rescue at Breadbox to the lovely Annie. Peach was raised in our therapy program and participates in the cuddle events.
Peach would do well in a variety of home situations and is used to children. She loves to be pet, but might be a little difficult for a child to pick up.
-
The team have been calling Peach “spicy” the past week, so I’m spending some extra time with her. I think she has cabin fever. I get it girl, me too. I’ll get her out for more time to run in the biggest pen. -Robin
Meli | Steele Female | Mixed Breed | Annie x Winter
$200
-
Sex: Female (Not Spayed)
Born: 04/03/2025
Breed: Mixed
Variety: Steele
-
Meli has a beautiful chestnut colored coat all over her whole entire body, whereas most chestnuts have a creamy colored belly, hers is dark thanks to her “steele” color genes. Her personality is calm with an athletic build. She would do well with an area where she has room to exercise.
She was born as a rescue at Breadbox to the lovely Annie. Meli was raised in our therapy program and participates in the cuddle events.
She would do well in a variety of home situations and is used to children. She loves to be pet and is pretty easy to handle.
She is currently living outside during the day and loves it. For this reason we think she would be flexible to either live indoors, or outside as a garden pet. Rabbits do well in large wooden hutches, chicken runs, or large dog pens with a roof.
-
1/21/2026 Her fur is so slick and shiny it feels like an otter. - R
Salt | Mixed Female | $200
-
Sex: Female (Not Spayed)
Born: 3 years old
Breed: Mixed
Variety: Magpie (Grey and White)
Weight: 6lbs 4 oz
-
Salt is a mixed breed lady who loves to eat! Her favorites right now are carrot ribbons and celery leaves. She is medium sized and low energy, but could use some space to move around so she can keep extra weight off and continue to build healthy muscle tone. She eats hay well when not overfed on pellet food.
She is social and has lived with a couple other rabbits during her stay with us. Currently she and Lilac are roomies, and keeping each other cozy during the winter months. She does need some space for alone time here and there, but is overall a good rabbit to consider for a bond.
Salt is used to living outside, so we feel comfortable saying she could be homed indoors or out. The medium breed rabbits make wonderful garden pets in a safely enclosed space such as a shed, chicken run, or large dog pen with a roof.
She is still learning to trust humans completely and will take time to warm up to new people, but the good news is that she is easy to bribe with fresh greens fed by hand. She is on the harder side to pick up and tends to panic in my arms, but for an experienced handler, no problem.
-
1/15/2026 Salt and Lilac have been living together for several months now and I still cannot tell who is dominant. They are both hungry though. Very good eaters! -Robin
Pepperoni | Mixed Male | Neutered | $400
-
Sex: Male (Neutered)
Born: 2.5 years old
Breed: Mixed
Variety: Self Black
Weight: 5lb 7oz
-
Pepperoni is a no Bologne kind of rabbit. He is straight to business. He expects you to feed him quickly and efficiently and will grunt at you if he sees you slacking on the job!
He came to us with Salt, but had different plans for his life at Breadbox. He now lives in a wooden hutch bachelor pad in the gardens of Breadbox.
We feel comfortable saying that Pepperoni could live indoors or outdoors. He will need someone with extreme patience to overcome his gruff exterior. He can be petted, but is very difficult to pick up and handle. We know this grumpy man has his perfect person out there somewhere!!
-
Lilac | Self Black Mixed Female | $200
-
Sex: Female (Not Spayed)
Born: 3-5 yrs old
Breed: Mixed
Variety: Self Black
Weight: 7lbs 9 oz
-
Lilac has really grown on us in her time here. She is the best cuddler and will sit with Lexie, laying on her chest, for an hour. She has an awesome purr and has even been known to groom her favorite humans.
She can be a little intimidating to feed, as she gets very excited and lunges towards your hand. And she isn’t a tiny bunny, she is a big confident lady! We’ve discovered an easy fix. if you hand her a fresh leaf or treat, she will happily munch away while you fill her bowl and care for her area.
Lilac is currently living outdoors full time with her friend Salt and would do well as a garden bunny with some area to run around, or as an indoor queen. She is a medium activity level.
She needs a family that wants to spend some time holding her, (she is the weight of a human baby!) and where she has a bit of space.

Donate your time. We are always happy to include new volunteers in cleaning cages, socializing shy rabbits, and feeding and watering the herd. Email us if you’d like to donate your time.
Build. More cages and rabbit runs mean we can save more rabbits in a healthy, clean, and enriching environment! We currently need individuals willing to donate their time and carpentry skills building hutches and runs.
Donate. The Breadbox Rescue Program is sustained on donations, community support, and A LOT of hard work and emotional moments behind the scenes. We try to keep a reserve of $400-600 at all times in our rescue fund for possible emergency health care costs.
